What is the difference between powder coating and sintering?

There is none. Powder coating, sintering and powder spraying all refer to the same process: dry powder paint is applied electrostatically to the workpiece surface and then cured in an oven at 180–200°C. Different names — same result.

What materials can be powder coated?

Accepted Answer

Any electrostatically conductive material: steel, aluminium, galvanised steel, cast iron, stainless steel. We are not limited to metals — the key is that the material conducts electric charge and can withstand the oven temperature (180–200°C). Therefore, the process cannot be applied to plastics, wood or rubber.

What colours are available for powder coating?

Accepted Answer

Every colour in the complete RAL colour chart is available. Matt, semi-gloss, gloss, textured and metallic surfaces can also be ordered. If you have a RAL code, simply provide it — otherwise we will help you choose a colour.

Question 4

What is the turnaround time for powder coating?

Accepted Answer

Generally within one week, though the exact deadline depends on workload. Our oven is 7 metres long — for smaller quantities we wait until enough workpieces have accumulated for economical operation. Turnaround time is therefore variable: it can be 2 days, but in the worst case within 2 weeks. We can always give a current deadline by phone.

How should the workpiece be prepared?

If the part is also being sandblasted, it must be free of oil and grease — as grease contaminates the blasting medium. If sandblasting is not required, we degrease the workpiece with phosphate high-pressure washing. Additionally: remove plastic, rubber and adhesive residues, and for laser-cut parts, deburr the edges. We remove rust and old paint by sandblasting. If there is no hanging hole, we can add one — but it is better to plan for this during manufacturing.

Do I need to arrange an appointment in advance?

Yes, please always call us before delivering workpieces. We will discuss quantity, expected deadline and preparation requirements. This avoids unnecessary journeys.

Question 7

Do you also do sandblasting, or only powder coating?

Accepted Answer

Both — and importantly: in one place, in one facility. After sandblasting, the metal surface can rust again within hours, so it is a great advantage that at our facility the part goes directly from the blast cabin to the spray cabin and then into the oven. Our blast cabin is 10 metres long, so we can also accommodate large-format structures.

Question 8

What size pieces fit in the oven?

Accepted Answer

The internal dimensions of our oven are 7 × 1.5 × 2.3 metres. Unfortunately we cannot accept larger pieces. If your workpiece dimensions are borderline, call us and we will check whether it fits.

Question 9

Do you handle transport as well?

Accepted Answer

Generally the customer delivers the workpieces, but after individual discussion and quotation we can also assist with transport. Call us and we will discuss the details.

How can I request a quote?

Accepted Answer

The best option is to call us — we will explain all the details. Alternatively, you can fill in the quote request form on our website or send us an email. For an accurate quote we need: a photo or drawing of the workpiece, approximate dimensions, quantity, desired colour (RAL code if available) and requirements regarding coating durability.
